CONCRETE FINISHERS

East Butte concrete finishers pour, level and smooth concrete for surfaces such as roads, curbs, floors and sidewalks. In this role, you will be expected to:

 

  • Check formwork, granular base and steel reinforcement materials 
  • Direct placement of concrete into forms or onto surfaces according to grade 
  • Fill hollows and remove spots on freshly poured cement 
  • Operate power vibrators to compact concrete 
  • Level top surface concrete according to grade and depth specification 
  • Finish concrete to meet specifications using hand and power tools 
  • Apply hardening and sealing components to cure surfaces 
  • Waterproof, damp proof and restore surfaces 
  • Repair, resurface and replace worn or damaged sections of concrete structures 
  • Clear work sites of any tools, debris, and equipment 
  • Perform all tasks with safety consciousness 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications for this role include a minimum of two years of concrete finishing experience and the ability to work continuously for prolonged periods under pressure and in varying weather conditions. You must have a valid class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle to commute to different sites. We are looking for people with excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team setting and independently with little supervision. Flexibility and adaptability are assets, as are the willingness and ability to work extended hours and Saturdays.

CLASS 1 DRIVERS

East Butte class 1 drivers operate truck and trailer in heavy construction earthwork environments and in/out of gravel pits. In this role, you will be expected to:

  • Complete pre-use equipment inspections to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition
  • Participate in the safe fueling and servicing of equipment
  • Interact with loading and dumping equipment
  • Follow site driving rules
  • Ensure compliance with all company, client and legislated safety policies, operating standards, and procedures
  • Using adequate and suitable safety equipment, including all required PPE
  • Review safe work plans/ hazard assessment before job commencement and follow all requirements
  • Report any necessary repairs to the maintenance team or supervisors
  • Report all incidents, near misses or damage immediately

 

Qualifications for this role include a minimum of two years experience working as a Class 1 Driver.

We are looking for people with a safety-first attitude who are attentive and responsible, take direction well, and possess strong listening skills. Written and spoken proficiency are required, and applicants must have a valid Class 1 Driver’s License and a clean driver’s abstract.

PROJECT FOREMEN

East Butte project foremen coordinate operations and oversee workers at job sites for road construction, earthworks, and underground services. In this role, you will be expected to:

  • Maintain a safety-first mindset.
  • Coordinate tasks according to priorities and plans
  • Produce schedules and monitor attendance of crew
  • Allocate general and daily responsibilities
  • Supervise and train workers and tradespeople
  • Ensure manpower and resources are adequate
  • Guarantee all safety precautions and quality standards are met
  • Supervise the use of machinery and equipment
  • Monitor expenditure and ensure it remains within budget
  • Resolve problems when they arise
  • Report on progress to supervisors and management as required


Qualifications for this role include proven experience as a heavy civil road construction and underground services foreman and in-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment and OHS guidelines. As the point of reference for workers and supervisors, you must be able to read drawings, plans and blueprints, communicate and report effectively, ensure project completion and possess substantial experience, leadership, organizational, problem-solving and decision-making skills. You should also be in good physical condition with excellent stamina. Required safety courses include Leadership for Safety Excellence Advanced First Aid, Ground Disturbance II, Confined Space Entry and WHMIS.

CONCRETE SLIP FORM PAVER FOREMAN

East Butte slip form paver foremen oversee and supervise the daily activities of a concrete paving crew with a focus on safety, quality and personnel management. In this role, you will be expected to:

  • Prioritize work schedules to meet production deadlines and standards while ensuring quality control
  • Organize and track the crew’s time and activity
  • Identify materials and tool requirements to be on hand as needed
  • Promote a safe work environment and adhere to safety policies and work procedures

 

Qualifications for this role include supervisory experience handling crews of 5-8 people paving concrete, parking lots, curb and gutter and repair and maintenance projects. You must have the core knowledge and skills to plan, organize, problem-solve and provide direction effectively. Your leadership skills should include mentoring and inspiring workers through your strong work ethic and positive team attitude. You will need to communicate effectively and respectfully with all stakeholders, including co-workers, supervisors, clients and the public, as well as concrete plants, trucking subcontractors and other miscellaneous subs. You must be able to perform physically demanding tasks in all types of weather and terrain and possess competence in operating various equipment.

EQUIPMENT OPERATORS

East Butte equipment operators are responsible for operating various heavy construction equipment. In this role, you will be expected to:

  • Perform a daily pre-inspection of equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment (e.g. greasing)
  • Exercise good judgment in load handling, placement of equipment and material
  • Interpret and use hand signals to communicate with others
  • Promote a safe work environment and adhere to safety policies and work procedures


Qualifications for this role include a minimum of two years experience working in underground utility construction, civil construction or landscaping. You must be able to read underground utility locates and possess a strong work ethic and a positive team attitude.

LABORERS

East Butte construction labourers are responsible for performing various tasks on job sites. In this role, you will be expected to:

  • Carry/distribute materials and tools as needed throughout the job site
  • Dig and fill trenches in coordination with the excavator operator using shovels and pickaxes
  • Measure and layout work areas to set desired grade elevations
  • Compact ground surfaces using soil compaction equipment
  • Level and grade ground surfaces using brooms and lute rakes
  • Maintain a clean and organized job site to reduce and prevent safety hazards

 

Qualifications for this role include the ability to perform physically demanding tasks. You must be willing to learn and work well independently or as part of a team. You must possess excellent attention to detail and active listening skills, have access to reliable transportation and be willing to travel and work Saturdays as needed. You must possess a willingness to learn. Prior experience in civil works is an asset.
